  • Implemented automated OS installation using PXE, kickstart, Cobbler, local YUM server. Upgraded from RHEL 4 to 5. Assisted with migration from VMware 2.5 and 3.5 to vSphere.

  • Supported developers, PIs, and bench scientists in proteomics research across several labs. Managed server-related hardware, OS, network, security, backups, applications, and purchasing decisions. Sole administrator for department’s server hardware and OS from 9/2005 – 12/2007.

  • Migrated fleet from SLES (Suse) to RHEL, designing for automated OS installation and configuration.

  • Participated in Strategies for Green IT at Penn 2008 evaluation team and organized Storage-SIG team for shared storage and clusters.

  • Performed security audits for large managed services provider and implemented improvements for compliance with FFIEC and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

  • Performed audio engineering, production, editing, and reporting as volunteer with AMARC (Association Mondiale des Radiodiffuseurs Communautaires/World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters) for on-site coverage of the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Performed services in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

  • Installed, administered, secured, and ensured maximum uptime for production UNIX servers (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Linux) in large data center. Accommodated diverse customers, from large financial clients, to government agencies, to small dot-coms, with excellent customer service and administrative follow-up. Acted as lead Unix engineer on numerous complex implementations.

  • Developed industry-strength security standards and SOPs for Solaris, AIX, Linux and HP-UX and implemented OS security in compliance with FFIEC, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and internal audit regulations. Part of team that brought company’s FFIEC rating up 1 level in 3 months.

  • Performed disaster recovery operations in test and real system-down situations.

  • Administered, installed, configured, maintained, automated and troubleshot systems, software, backups, mail servers, and firewalls in a mixed computing environment consisting of Linux, Solaris, SunOS and Windows, on a wide variety of hardware.

  • Installed and maintained enterprise software, performed extensive Y2K testing, managed tape backups including capacity planning, performed code audits for production control.

  • Digitally recorded and edited technical courses for Distance Learning products. Tested and debugged example code. Supported Curriculum Manager, gave extensive editorial input. Installed/configured many software suites on Solaris and Windows.
